I usually try to give them 50 or 100 pages as a fair trial, but after that, I figure life is too short and full of amazing books to trudge through blah ones.Deweyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00395712971920800717noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18884029.post-3993882323412816632007-10-27T10:08:00.000+10:002007-10-27T10:08:00.000+10:00There are definitely books where timing is everyth...There are definitely books where timing is everything. I've started something and thought 'meh' only to pick it up a week, month or even a year later and realize what a treasure it is. So mood does matter.

Although I'm about a third of the way through VIRGIN RIVER by Robyn Carr and am wondering why everyone loved it so much. I'm struggling and the characters just aren't that interesting to me. Timing? Maybe. I think this really influences our reading and our thoughts, and then again there's our reading moods...

I hope you will enjoy the books when you decide to read them again.Melodyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03967837585961009598noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18884029.post-8448289148187568832007-10-26T05:54:00.000+10:002007-10-26T05:54:00.000+10:00Marg - yes you right. I normally give books a second chance before I knew the book isn't for me :)

I never heard of the books you listed here, but good luck on given Music and Silence another go :)

Happy BTT !Juliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06327851309182088290noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18884029.post-84345503411860702562007-10-26T03:22:00.000+10:002007-10-26T03:22:00.000+10:00Is Cry, the Beloved Country the book where the aut...Is Cry, the Beloved Country the book where the author doesn't use quotation marks?

The most recent books I abandoned were Jacob and Desperate Duchesses. I ocassionally go back to the Bible and to the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, but I certainly don't consider them abandoned- just who could read either of those in a single run?John Mutfordhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08730205221787092204noreply@blogger.com
