Expensive day out

I am on holidays from work at the moment, spending two weeks of the holidays with my son. Today we decided it was a good day for an outing so we decided that we were going to go to the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre and go for a swim. In order to get there we need to go past the city so I decided I would drop into the romance bookstore and pick up a couple of books (The Rest Falls Away by Colleen Gleason and Demon Angel by Meljean Brook) that I had waiting for me. Because the store is right in the city I don't normally drive, but today I did.

I got to the store and there were no parking spaces, so I parked in the 15 minute loading zone. I was in the store for 7 minutes tops, and came out to find that I had got a parking ticket. $107 fine......would have been much cheaper to just get the two books sent to me! I am going to try to appeal - after all I was loading (right?), and I was less than 5 minutes! What do you think my chances are? What's your most expensive trip to a bookstore been?

To top it all off, my son fell over and landed on his butt on the pool deck, banged his head on the waterslide on the way down and caught his fingers in the back door a little while ago. Maybe we should have just stayed in bed!

  1. Oh no! What a horrible day! I hope you can appeal the ticket successfully and that your son's head is better.

  2. Whoa! That is crazy! I would definitely try to appeal. It's worth a try at least. I mean, $107 is a bit excessive, I think. I hope your son is doing better. What a crappy day! Hugs to you!

  3. Wow...I've had days like! Definitely try to appeal the ticket...definitely.

  4. No fun! Sheesh--that is one expensive ticket! I have had that sort of week, too (though not that expensive!!).

  5. Good God - I hope your son it okay! When bad stuff happens I always think of it in threes so your son is off the hook but I would keep my eyes out for 2 and 3 for you!

I hate tickets but so far I have been doing well - I get them for speeding but I don't think I drive like that anymore - at least I hope not.

Okay, do I walk in a circle three times, spit against the wind and spill some salt or am about to get a ticket?

  6. Ooh...Rendezvous??? My most expensive trips to the bookstore are always at Rendezvous. I come in intending to buy 2 or 3 well-researched books, and come out with a bag of 6!

If your car is a station wagon, your appeal might have a better chance. Apparently, wagons are allowed to be loading zones.

  7. Oh, Marg! How terrible. I hope you are able to appeal the ticket. The last time I paid a parking ticket it was only 25 dollars. Do I even want to know how much I would have to pay now??

  8. Sorry to hear about your son. I hope he get well real soon :)

And ---- ouch! that ticket sure is expensive. Yes do try to appeal, after all, you only there for few minute top :)

  9. Man...that sucks Marg!! It can't hurt to appeal. What's the worst that can happen? You already owe them $107!!

  10. I hope your son is doing better and he wasn't hurt too much. As for the parking ticket, i would definitively appeal, although I wish you good luck.

  11. Hmm I wish you luck w/ the ticket. I've not had one, so I've no idea how merciful the parkinig tickets gods are.

    Hope your son is better.
