Half way done

So, we are basically at the halfway mark in the year, so I thought I would do a quick check of where I am at in comparison to the goals that I set for myself at the beginning of the year.

My goals for the year were to:

Read 200 books
Read 15 books that I already owned as at 1 January 2007
Read Dorothy Dunnett
Read more Australian Authors
(at least 10)
Read shortlists for the Booker and either the Orange Prize or the Pulitzer Prize
Blogging - specifically not getting so far behind on reviews or putting pressure on myself if I do.

So how am I going? Let's just say it isn't pretty!

Read 200 books
- actually this one isn't too bad. As at June 30, I had read 98 books, so I am not too far off of where I need to be in order to meet my goal, however, at this point last year I had read 109 books.

Read Dorothy Dunnett - I borrowed the first book in the one of her series. Didn't get to read it though! Does that count?

Read 15 books that I already owned as at 1 January 2007 - Um...well I've read 2, so I might need to work on this one a bit! It's especially a bit of a worry seeing as I have bought more than 15 books in May and June alone!

Read more Australian authors (at least 10) - Surprisingly on target on this one! Maybe I need to go and check my spreadsheet to make sure that I counted right!

Read shortlists for the Booker and either the Orange Prize or the Pulitzer Prize - Well given that the shortlist for the Booker isn't out yet, I am not failing that part yet, but as for the Orange and the Pulitzer...well...I've read both the books that won! I will be reading a couple more of the Orange prize nominations really, I will be!

Blogging (specifically not getting behind on reviews) - There was this brief moment back in April when I was all caught up. Unfortunately, that wasn't something that I was able to maintain, and I am currently a terrible 22 reviews behind!

So I might be being a bit harsh on myself at this stage to say:

but it isn't that far off!

  1. Have you read Melanie La'Brooy's The Wish List? It's set in Melbourne and has a chic-lit/romancey feel.

  2. It seems like you are doing mostly okay. :) I wouldn't say failed entirely. I forgot I set myself a goal, I am going to have to check on it when I get home later. :)

  3. I have no goals. I justread and read and read. LOL. I am too lazy to keep up with what I've read. That and the fact that I have a horrible memory and WILL forget in a few days what the hell I read the weeks before. LOL.

  4. I think you might be a bit harsh on yourself - and you shouldn't be. You did do the best you can :)

Compare to mine June reading, I only read 28 books since January of this year. My goal was to try to reach 50 books. So far, it does not look like it heading that way.....but your is way ahead of mine. I know you can do more reading...good luck with that :)

  5. Yep, WAY too harsh! You're doing great - even trying to accomplish your goals is better than what I do which is set them and forget 'em ;)

  6. You're doing so well! My goal was to read 10 Aussie authors this year, and I've read 9 already (who knew there were so many good ones?!)

  7. Sheesh....98 books?? I'm so impressed with that! I don't usually make resolutions because I also seem to break them!

  8. I think you're doing pretty well with those goals! Better than I would've. ;)

  9. Especially after you reading all the blogs that you do, you still have time to read all that! haha :)

  10. Wow you have read a lot this year! I thought I was doing well with 45 but its less than half what you have read. I wouldn't say your mission has failed, you still have lots of time left this year...

  11. I think it's extraordinary that you review every book you read. Your list and goals are awesome and I think you are doing quite well. The year's not over yet either.
