Library Loot - January 27 - February 2

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and me that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

I wonder why it seems such a surprise how quickly time passes? It's nearly February already! Where does the time go?  Since the beginning of the year we have had a number of new participants join in on Library Loot. If you haven't already, please sure to stop by and say hi to the following bloggers:

Bonnie from Red Lady's Reading Room
Cat from Tell Me a Story
Colleen from Colleen's Reads
Cathy from Greyt Thoughts
Natalie from Reading2Learn
Natasha from Maw Books
Emily from Books, The Universe and Everything
JS Peyton from Biblioaddict
Trish from Trisha's Book Blog

If you would like to join in on Library Loot, just leave your link on this week's Mr Linky so that we can all come by and check out your loot!

My loot this week is a mixture of new loot and reloot, including a couple of books that I am really looking forward to reading:

Emperor: The Gates of Rome by Conn Iggulden (Reloot) - I really enjoyed the books in the Genghis Khan series by Iggulden, so now I am going back to read his earlier series about Caesar.

The Oak Apple by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles (Reloot) - The next book in the Morland Dynasty series.

Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier - Juliet Marillier is one of those authors I have been meaning to read for ages. Every time I read a review for one of her books, it is always very positive and I finally got around to putting her on request. I originally requested another one of her books, but Angie from Angieville insisted that I really needed to start with this book!

Roses by Leila Meacham - Until a few weeks ago I hadn't anything about this book, then I saw it mentioned on the USA Today bookpages, and then I saw it mentioned all over the place! A sprawling saga set in the South sounds exactly like something I would enjoy!

Betrayal of the Blood Lily by Lauren Willig - The latest book in the Pink Carnation series, this time set in India! I am looking forward to reading this one a lot, as I have heard good things about it!

So there you have my loot for this week! I am guaranteed to have more loot next week. I currently have six items on hold waiting to be picked up, but only four spaces on my library card. Not quite sure how I am going to juggle that, but I am sure I will manage.

  1. I agree! I hadn't heard of Roses at all, and suddenly this book was all over the place! Looking forward to how you find it! Happy reading!

  2. I've been trying to tone down my use of the library, so I haven't participated in this meme in a while. =( I did want to say that I just adore Juliet Marillier, though, and Daughter of the Forest is an amazing, beautiful book. I loved it both times I read it. I also read Roses earlier this month and liked it, and I just finished Blood Lily this morning. It was a good addition to the series - and I was surprised because I never particularly liked Penelope before!

  3. I love the cover art for Roses. Can't wait to hear more about it!

  4. They all sounds so very good :D

  5. I remember reading Daughter of the Forest quite a few years ago, but I can't really recall how I felt about it. I can't wait for your review-- maybe it'll bring back some memories!

  6. I saw Roses in People Magazine recently and was definitely intrigued as well! Also, I have the Pink Carnation book on hold at the library (hopefully will have it for next week's loot) I can't believe I had never heard of this series before, it was rec'd to me by a friend after I said I loved teh Scarlet Pimpernel and time travels.

  7. Snap! I have Daughter of the Forest and the first Lauren Willig/Pink Carnation in my loot this week too.
Not sure why I've never got around to reading either of these authors before.

  8. I just downloaded Roses to the Kindle for later reading. The Iggulden book intrigues me, too (I've jotted that one down).

Oh, and did you know that you won a book? Zap me an email when you get a chance!

  9. I love the idea of Library Loot I'll have to sign up very soon after I get my new library card. Daughter of the Forest and Betrayal of the Blood Lily looks very interesting.

  10. I kinda like that font for Roses. That's all I've got to say, not my kind of books

  11. The Betrayal of the Blood Lily looks interesting. The others I had not heard of before. Enjoy!

  12. hmm...I should consider your choice of novels. They are all very interesting. None of those I've read so far. Will definitely be keeping my eyes on your review posts. Thanks for the list.

  13. I want to read Roses too, it looks like just my sort of book.

Marg, I just gave you an award at The Misadventures of Moppet:

  14. So apparently I didn't double check my name. Looks like a Calamity Jack review was the last time I linked up. LOL Thanks for hosting!

  15. So apparently I didn't double check my name. Looks like a Calamity Jack review was the last time I linked up. LOL Thanks for hosting!

  16. Loving the library loot posts, so many books to add to my own nightstand. I'll have to start doing this, I just post everything on my nightstand but I don't separate library from other books, good idea! I love my library, I think I'll add some information on the ones I visit, especially on vacation. Thanks!

  17. I can't see the mister linky or your comments for that matter. But here is my first library loot post ever:

  18. I love Juliet Marillier! I hope you enjoy it!

I'm jealous that you've got Blood Lily. I actually need to see if my library has gotten it in yet. Thanks for reminding me!

  19. I have the Conn Iggulden books on my TBR now. Can't wait to hear about your latest read!

  20. Those look good. I just did my first Library Loot post (and put it into Mr. Linky). Thanks for posting - I have enjoyed seeing what other bloggers get from their libraries for months!

  21. Enjoy your books. I own a few of them and really need to read them...

  22. Kailana, which ones do you own? Have you read Marillier?

    Thanks for joining in Caitie!

Amy, have you read Iggulden before?

Jennifer, I was so pleased that my library got Blood Lily so quickly. It doesn't always happen. Hope your library system has it already.

Hi Michelle, and welcome to Library Loot. Not sure why you couldn't see Mr Linky, but I have now added your link in.

  23. Milliemarie and Novel Whore Reviews, I look forward to seeing your future library loot posts!

At least the link was correct Natasha! Could have been worse.

Roses looks good doesn't it Miss Moppet. Thanks for the award!

Thanks for stopping by Natalie. I'll try to write some reviews!

Thanks for alerting me to my win Michele. Not sure when I would have actually noticed it otherwise!

Lustyreader, my enjoyment of The Scarlet Pimpernel was why the Pink Carnation series caught my eye as well. Hope you enjoy it.

She, if you can't remember much about it sounds like a reread of Marillier could be in order.

Colleen, Betrayal of the Blood Lily is the sixth(?) book in the series. The first book is Secret History of the Pink Carnation which is a really fun read.

Thanks for stopping by uenohama and Blodeuedd.

Linda, the cover for Roses is very pretty isn't it. I have high hopes for what is inside the cover too!

Meghan, looks like I have some good reading in front of me. I must confess I am bit intrigued as how Blood Lily is going to pan out, given that the main male character appears not to be Penelope's husband. I am sure it will all be explained, but the back cover copy leaves enough gaps for me to want to know what happens.

Aths, Roses has been everywhere hasn't it! Can't wait to read it.

  24. Came over the Saturday Network. Roses sounds good. I hadn't seen it before either, but I'm going to head on over to Goodreads and look at it closer. Thanks for sharing!

  25. Thanks for stopping by Jill!

  26. Genial fill someone in on and this fill someone in on helped me alot in my college assignement. Thanks you seeking your information.

  27. A lot of great loot this week. I have a copy of Daughter of the Forest and am also interested in reading Roses, so those reviews will be interesting to see. I hope you have a great time reading all of them!

  28. Brim over I assent to but I about the collection should prepare more info then it has.
