Library Loot: December 15 to 21

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

I have a confession to make. I *may* have told my librarian a little fib when I went to the library this week.

My library has a limit of 60 items out at a time, which you really would think would be enough but apparently not! You see I had the maximum amount of books out, with only 2 to return but 4 to pick up. When I took the books back I kind of intended to only pick up 2 and then I would pick the other 2 up later, but the problem was that I couldn't decide which 2 to leave behind. I therefore thought I would try my luck and see what happened.

I got up to the counter and the librarian scanned the first two items, and then she scanned the third item and it came up with the warning that I had reached the maximum, to which I replied that I had just returned a couple of items, knowing full well that they must have already been scanned in.

Tell me, which of these books would you have left behind:

The Distant Hours by Kate Morton - It feels as though we have been waiting ages for this latest book from Kate Morton! Looking forward to reading it.

Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan - It's a little bit amusing that I know exactly who read this book before me! Bree from All the Books I Can Read happened to mention that she was reading this book from our local library, and I realised that I was next in line for the book! We haven't met yet, but I am sure it won't be too long before we do, seeing as we live so close!

Temptation Ridge by Robyn Carr - I am inhaling this series at the moment. I start the next book and just keep reading until I finish it, and then request the book after that! I have already read this one, and I am pretty sure that you will see another book from this series in my loot next week too!

Anna by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles - There's a bit of a sad story associated with this book. I actually started reading it a few weeks ago, but it got to due date, and I couldn't extend anymore, and I still had a couple of hundred pages to go. I did however have a plan, and it was a good one. I would return the book first thing in the morning, then request it again once I got to work and then I would be able to pick it up either that day or the next and I could just keep reading. The only problem is that they put the book into mending once it was returned. I still requested it, but then they removed both this book, and the other two books in the trilogy from the catalogue, so I had to request this one through interlibrary loan, and I will have to do the same for the rest of the books in the trilogy as well!

What loot did you get from the library this week?

  1. That's a lot to go through just to get a copy of the book back. It's worth it though

  2. Great picks and excellent subterfuge at the library. I've definitely done that once or twice (then rushed home to find books to return asap).

No loot for me (again) this week as tomorrow is moving day!

  3. As a librarian, I've heard that fib before :) My library only limits quantities of DVDs (6) & nonfiction (3 on any topic or unkind students would take everything and leave nothing for their classmates) which can be bad policy if you're a bibliophile with no sense of shame -- although I don't think I've ever had 60 out!

  4. I probably would have told a little fib as well. I just can't help myself around books that I love, and I can totally see that 60 might not be enough. Glad you were able to get all of them. I am looking forward to your thoughts on The Distant Hours. I have that one waiting for me, and I am pretty excited about it!!

  5. I have that problem not so much with check-outs but with holds. My library has a limit of 60 which I try to manage very carefully, but I am always hovering about the limit!

  6. If I'd had to leave one behind it would've been the Dash & Lily book, because all of the others are right up my alley! Great Loot!

  7. Yay Dash and Lily :) Btw I'm also in line for The Distant Hours... I think I'm down to 9th now!

Yes, we will have to arrange meeting soon! :)

  8. That is so funny that another blogger had that exact same book before you!

  9. I've read the first two and can say they're both quite enjoyable! I'm glad you got to take all four. I mean, really, doesn't the library benefit if you check out too many books and have to pay them fines? :-)

  10. So you would be one of those people I send nasty thoughts to when I get cross because none of the books I want to borrow are available and I always assume it's someone hoarding them all :)

  11. LOL Marg!

I just began a frantic mini-read-a-thon to get through some of the shorter books I have checked out so I can return enough to get my available holds at the library later today. I'm still adjusting to check-out limits, although my brain rationally knows I don't need more than 50 books out at once.

  12. Hi, i just want to say hello to the community

  13. I won't do a link since my website is my story, but here's what I got through Interlibrary Loan: The Mendacity of Hope, an Obama critique from the left, kind of discouraging; and Herding Donkeys, which cheered me up because it gives a history of my hero, Howard Dean.

  14. AAAAH! I MUST have the Distant Hours and Lily and Dash! I really need to order library books. Enjoy!

  15. Pretty cool place you've got here. Thanks for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to them. I would like to read more on that blog soon.

  16. Hi Marg!
I have Dash & Lily's Book of Dares in my library loot this week, too--just with different cover art. I'm hoping to be reading it in the next few days. I hope we both enjoy it! :)

  17. Wow, 60 items! My library will only allow a maximum of 10 (only 2 can be DVDs or CDs). My library must be poor :)

  18. I can never make those sorts of decisions either. I always fib about having "just turned some in" too. But, wow, I think 60 items would do me...I don't think I've had that many out. And I thought our library had a very generous limit system.
