Library Loot: May 9 to 16

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!
Claire has Mr Linky this week so head over there to add your link for others to see what loot you picked up! Here is my loot:

Red Spice Road Cookbook by John McLeay - I went out for dinner to Red Spice Road a couple of years ago and enjoyed the experience, so when I saw the cookbook sitting on the shelf (and I had some space on my library card) I had to pick it up!

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee - The next choice for my online book club.

Big Cherry Holler by Adriana Trigiani - After loving The Shoemaker's Wife now I am determined to work my way through Adriana Trigiani's backlist!

Faithful Place: A Novel by Tana French - Will this be the time that I finally read this book?

A Home for Grace by Sophie Laguna - The last of Grace's books in the Our Australian Girl series.

A Monster Calls: A Novel by Patrick Ness - After finishing the Chaos Walking trilogy, I had to read this book, and pretty much anything else that Patrick Ness puts out!

Merle's Kitchen by Merle Parrish - Bree bought this one and said she liked it, so I thought I would take a look at it!

  1. Hi Marg! Let me know what you think of the Tana French. For some reasons, that book caught my eyes, but I've never read the author :P

Merle's Kitchen cookbook... Isn't she the CWA lady who came on Masterchef Australia last year for an immunity challenge?!? :P

    1. Yes, that's her!

When I get around to it I will also put a post about meeting Kate Bracks who won last year and her cookbook.

BTW, Masterchef just started here again a few days ago!

  2. You got quite a few books! I have two new ones and two old ones and don't know when I'll get to them! But it's hard to resist books at the library.

  3. Marg: Hope you get a chance to read "Faithful Place." It's fantastic - I just picked up Tana French's books two weeks ago and read all three of them in about six days. "Faithful Place" is easily the best of the three - although all of them are quite good.

    1. There is a new Tana French coming out soon! I enjoyed Into the Woods and loved The Likeness so I have been looking forward to Faithful Place since it came out. I have borrowed it a few times now but then other book have got in the way!

  4. The Big Cherry Holler series was wonderful, and I think you will like it. I think Big Stone Gap is the first in the series, if you haven't read that one already. I also loved A Monster Calls. Just a heartbreaking piece of fiction.

    1. I read Big Stone Gap last year, and liked it, but didn't love it anywhere near as much as I liked The Shoemaker's Wife

  5. A cookbook by the restaurant? That's awesome. I suppose many restaurants would worry about people stopping eating there, but I'd love to see cookbooks by other places!

    1. I think a lot of restaurants have done that - River Road Cafe from the UK etc.

  9. I love using the library for cookbooks! So many of the cookbooks I own sit on the shelf unopened for years at a time that I really can't rationalise buying any more. Picking them up at the library means I can get the same level of inspiration without the storage problems! Enjoy your loot!

    1. Yes! And if you really do like the cookbook you can always go and buy it anyway!

  10. I think that Faithful Place is the best book Tana French has written. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

  11. I've skimmed To Kill a Mockingbird. I just don't think it's the book for me despite the fact that everyone seems to love it.

A Monster Calls is on my list of books I'd like to read at some point.

    1. It is our online book club choice for this month. I need to read it in the next couple of days if I can find the time.
