Library Loot: July 4 to 10

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!
I have a confession to make. I am a bit addicted to my local library and I am way to quick on the request button! You may have noticed. It is getting to the stage where my library pile is getting a bit out of control again, so it is time to gain some control back. Or at least, it will be from now on for the month of July.

Back in April, I put some restrictions on my borrowing in that I wasn't allowed to request any new books with one proviso. I could request a book only if it was the next book in the series that I am reading. No starting new series, no stand alones, no new releases that I must have right now!

I think I am going to have to put these same restrictions in place now. Of course, if I wanted to be really ruthless, I would return a whole heap of the books that are currently sitting on my library shelves and start from scratch, but I don't think I can bring myself to do that. It might be step 2 in my intervention program.

Having said that, I only got one book out from the library this week, but will be posting about 8 books next week once I pick them up. After that it should calm down a little bit again.

  2. I also go really crazy with the request button, and end up with audiobooks all over the house. I pretty much stick to audios from the library, but I have been known to bring home a stack or two that never seems to get taken care of! I wish you a lot of luck with your goal. I know it's hard, because who can resist free books? :)

    1. Especially free books that someone else gets off the shelf for you and puts in one convenient location for you!

  3. I have been kind of quiet on the library usage this year. Sort of sad!

  4. I have similar issues. I've been trying to read one, request a new one. It's been working. I feel like my library pile is shrinking.

    1. Mine tends to only shrink because I have to return books unread!

  5. What discipline! I've been put on an enforced minimal library regime since I moved back to Vancouver since I have a limited number of free holds. It's probably for the best, otherwise I know I'd be buried under new arrivals every week.

I just dropped my children off at the library for a special school holidays movie screening and even though I have 20+ books this month waiting to be read I still picked up three!

  7. I've been trying to cut down this year too - well, by cut down, I mean make an effort to space out the requests. It's been working so far, although there are weeks when things go haywire!

    1. I space out my request by .... minutes usually.

  8. I know what you mean! I'm on a book-borrowing ban right now. I can only check out books that I've placed on hold before my ban started and those for the kids. Good luck!

  9. I am dealing with a severe library addiction at the moment. Baby steps, baby steps.

I have also invoked the exception for series books. I mean, they're really one long book that you get out in pieces, right?

    1. That's exactly right Beth! Just one long book!

  11. Ugh, I know how you feel. I'm getting tired of sending books back to the library unread. I'm thinking I need to put my library card in ice and have the library lock my account so I stop putting books on hold.
