Alphabet 2020: F is for Favourite Music

I enjoy music at the best and most ordinary of times, and I don't need to tell you that these days are far from ordinary. Part of the way that I have been passing my shutdown time is explore various musical offerings that have been available online and participating in various music related challenges with my friends on Facebook.

Since we went into social isolation, I have watched a number of shows including a few of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicals and some of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra shows as well.

I posted a while ago now about my visit to the Grand Ole Opry last year which was an amazing night. I have also been enjoying the Opry performances every week! And it's become a can't miss event each weekend.

One of the great treats during this period have been the #croonersessions which Gary Barlow (lead singer of Take That) has organised. Every day he does a duet with another artist and some of them have been absolutely amazing. There are now around 40 of these performances available on Youtube and you could do worse than spend an hour or so enjoying these. Gary has announced that he won't be doing these every day any more but I am hopeful that there will be the occasional performance  still as they are very uplifting and enjoyable.

It was tough to choose a favourite because there were so many fun videos but I ended up choosing this one with features Gary Barlow singing an Elton John song with Lulu.

Over the last couple of months a couple of my friends have been doing an A-Z of music. The idea is  that each day the host posts a song beginning with the letter of the day and then we all chime in with our choice. So on the first day all the song titles would start with A, on the second day B etc. So below is the list of songs that  I chose during the most recent version. Not only has it been fun workshopping potential options with my husband each day, it has also been a blast seeing what songs other people chose.

A - And We Danced by The Hooters
B - Bad Day by Daniel Powter
C - Call Me by Blondie
D - Desire by U2
E - Electric Dreams by Phil Oakey and Giorgio Moroder
F - Free Fallin by Tom Petty
G - Glory Days by Bruce Springsteen
H- Hey Ya by Outkast
I - In the Ghetto by Elvis Presley
J - Just Like a Man by Del Amitri
K -Kiss a Girl by Keith Urban
L - Love Train by The O'Jays
M - Moving on Up by M People
N - New Rules by Dua Lipa
O- OMG by Usher
P - Praise You by Fatboy Slim
Q - Quit Playing Games With My Heart by Backstreet Boys
R - Run to You by Bryan Adams
S - Steal My Sunshine by Len
T - To Be With You by Mr Big
U - Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
V - Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles
W - What Would You Do by City High
*X - 7 Days by Craig David
Y - Youngblood by Five Seconds of Summer
Z - Zoom by The DNCE

*X was allowed to be a song title that starts with a number

I am contemplating doing something similar on my blog next year as my A-Z theme with a different letter each fortnight, but we will see!

What songs would you have included in your list? Are you expanding your musical horizons during this period of social isolation?

    1. It has been fun! Now I just have to figure out how to translate it to blogging and decide if I am going to start it this year or wait until next year.

  2. I am just not a music person. I rarely listen and can't sing! My Dad used to listen to music all the time and his mother was very musical too. I missed out. Would be fun though to make your list.

  3. I love listening to all kinds of music and typically I try to listen to music when I'm working on my crafty projects.
