Multiples

This week's Booking Through Thursday question:

Do you have multiple copies of any of your books?
If so, why? Absent-mindedness? You love them that much? First Editions for the shelf, but paperbacks to read?
If not, why not? Not enough space? Not enough money? Too sensible to do something so foolish?

At the moment I have two copies of one book, but I think that that is about it! That book is A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. I bought it a while ago, and then I won a signed copy over on Dear Author so now I have two. I think I have a home for the unsigned copy but I am just waiting to hear for sure!

As for why I don't have more, there are a couple of reasons. I have no room or money to buy on multiple copies, and also I keep a spreadsheet so that I know what books I already own so I don't accidentally buy two!

  1. I had a few duplicates by accident so I wrote down all my books in a couple of address books as well as putting them all on librarything. It has worked so far...

  2. If it doesn't work out, I'm after a copy of that book, too! I have doubles of Lover Revealed, Beyond Seduction/Double Dare (HQN Temptation), and HP and the Philosopher's Stone.

  3. Wow, you're organised - a spreadsheet! Actually, that's something I should consider before my collection gets too much bigger.

  4. Have you tried LibraryThing? I don't have a spreadsheet but use that.

  5. I use BookDB to database my books. Apparently it can import from LibraryThing and not the other round. Hmmmph...

    Happy BTT!

  6. My shelving is limited, too. We have four bookcases and no room for more.

  7. Kat, if it doesn't work out I will let you know!

Coversgirl, I actually have several spreadsheets....I'm a little list obsessed when it comes to books!

Chris, I actually do have a Library thing account, but I just haven't updated it for ages. I really must!

  8. I like book lists too, Marg. I think that's how I end up in so many challenges . . .

I don't generally make a habit of buying multiple copies of books either. We have a few duplicates, but not many.

  9. I admit to owning two copies of Pride and Prejudice, one is a penguin classic paperback, and the other is pretty, leatherbound with goldleaf.

My Husband, an avid comic book collector, will buy in duplicate, or triplicate - originals that are never touched, series published in bound collections or just different covers that strike his fancy.

Thanks for comments on my blog! And YES - the word verification was on Crystal Inman's blogpage, and she is a romance writer.

  10. Hey, Marg, I just wanted to check if you got my e-mail, just in case it's lost in a SPAM folder somewhere. :-)
