I don't recall seeing that before

I am as big a fan of the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer as anyone, but I must confess that I am a little concerned at how much hype there is going to be around the release of Breaking Dawn.

Today I was browsing through my Amazon recommends list over and Breaking Dawn was one of the things that was recommended. Nothing unusual there...until you look at the cover image. Normally if the cover hasn't been released yet, then there is a No Image....errr.....image. But not for this book! This is what is shown for Breaking Dawn.

In case you can't read it, the bottom right hand corner says "Cover to be Released Summer 2008...".

I don't think I have ever seen that before. A sign of the hype to come?

  1. I'm about to start on this series - Twilight is on the way from Amazon - so I've yet to find out what everyone loves so much about these books. It does seem odd that they won't show the cover of the upcoming release... perhaps they're hoping to build up a Harry Potter type excitement. :-)

  2. It's posibly because the film of Twilight is due out soonish so the series is being built up even more. It does seem to be pretty popular in the literary world with non vampire/urban fantasy fans enjoying it as well. Hopefully it will live up to the hype...

  3. Cath, enjoy it! The Harry Potter comparison is a fair one because last year New Moon was the book that knocked Harry Potter out of the number 1 spot on the charts.

Rhinoa, you could be right. Maybe they want to do something related to the film, although I love how simple the early covers have been - very simple, but very striking.

  4. I suspect there will be a well oiled hype machine at work for the upcoming movie by then, at least a teaser trailer, and they'll be cross promoting w/ that.

  5. Hi Marg.

I am a big Twilight fan... although I think my ratings for the three books decline with each subsequent release (i.e. Twilight A, New Moon B+ and Eclipse B). I wish they weren't doing a movie. I will go see it... but I'm preparing myself for disappointment. As far as the book cover hype issue... I agree that it is a sign of the hype to come. All those extra bells and whistles that go into the excessive promotion of a book or movie kind of turn me off, though. But then again, it is geared toward teens and we know easily they are influenced by hype, so the marketers know what they are doing to make the most money. I guess only time will tell.... :)

  6. Probably. I've never read the series but from what I gather it has almost as big of a following as the Harry Potter books.

  8. I know they are coming out with a special edition of Eclipse in April, I think. I thought I heard that the will be unveiling the book cover then. This whole series has so much hype around it. I've heard Stephenie Meyer compared to JK Rawling a lot, although I can't imagine any boys reading this book.

  9. It was actually eclipse that knocked harry potter off number one. I seriously love the twilight books, although I still consider myself a harrypotterologist. Let's just say I read A LOT. The movie is likely going to be terrible. They probably are making it in a rush while Twilight books are still "in".
