Anti-Valentines Day?

I am not a huge Valentines Day fan. I've been by myself for far too long for it to be anything other than depressing, but even when I was with the ex it wasn't a big deal. Then again, this is the same man who forgot my 30th birthday and never understood why I was supremely pissed off! Yet another reason why he is ex!

So when you learn that there is an Anti-Valentine's Day Contest, and that there is a chance to win 3 new release books, it is a no-brainer that I am going to want to join in the fun!

  2. Amen to the ex-factor. I broke it off a year ago with the man I was dating for four years. He just got married last month, and I'm thankful to say that all I felt was RELIEF! Thanks for posting this! :)

  5. I'm on my own too Marg but when I was a couple I was never that into Valentines. I think it's because they just make such a huge deal out of it that it becomes irritating to me. Sounds like an interesting giveaway-I'm going to take a peek at it.

  6. Hubby and I have been married over 20 years but we don't do much for Valentines Day. Usually he will take me out for breakfast and we call it good. I have always thought it a bit silly to spend tons of money for a silly holiday.

  7. I've been married since before I was born (or, at least, it feels like it) but I'm not a big fan of any of the heavily-marketed holidays and neither is my husband. We just give each other gifts when we darned well feel like it. It's better than way, I think.

I am just catching up on your posts and I'm only going to comment here. That photo of the melted ice cream stand was hilarious. I understand your pain. We get that hot in the summer, too. I think the worst I've ever experienced was 118 degrees. We had a 115 heat index in August of 2007 and the band director made our kids march in the heat, so we all agreed no band in 2008. That's just evil. Everyone should stay indoors when it's that hot. I hope you get a break, soon.

  8. Bookfool, we have had a bit of relief, which is great, but it is back up to 44C/111F again tomorrow! It's a bit strange here at the moment. There are sections of Australia that are under flood, and other parts that have been melting for two weeks.

I don't understand how band can possibly be so important that the well being of the participants needs to be endangered.

Kathy, I have never been with anyone who makes a big deal of it, and I don't imagine that I will be in the future. I guess judging whether it is a waste of money depends on how the couple concerned feel after the event!

Actonbell, I haven't heard that expression before! Love it!

Dar, to me Valentine's seems to be a commercially generated holiday. We talk about Christmas being commercial but at least there is something behind it, whereas there doesn't seem to be much basis for Valentine's Day. It's a bit like the stores that try to get Halloween going here. It isn't an Australian type holiday but there are a few stores around that really are trying to get something commercial going!

    Thanks Vickie!

Seneca, I didn't mean to sound bitter! He has been gone long enough these days for me to be able to laugh about it, or at the very least make jokes about it!

Mjmbecky, amen indeed! There is a definite sense of relief every time I talk to him, which fortunately isn't ver often. I am so glad he's not really my problem anymore!

Serena, if you like a little romance, there are some good books on offer.
