Library Loot: February 9 to 15

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

Heaven and Earth by Nora Roberts - It's been a while since I read the first book in this trilogy, but now that I have a while to wait before the next new book comes out, so it is time to hit the backlist again.

Country Driving: A Journey Through China from Farm to Factory by Peter Hessler- We were talking about China for #spbkchat on Twitter last week, and this was one book that was suggested. it sounded like fun so I requested it. Tomorrow night we are talking about Japan so it will be interesting to see what recs come out of that chat!

India Black by Carol K Carr - I know that this is a historical mystery and the synopsis sounds interesting so I thought I would give it a go.

Fleur by Cynthia Harrod-Eagles -  Had to get this second book in the Kirov Saga through inter library

The Lord of the White Castle by Elizabeth Chadwick - the next book in Elizabeth Chadwick's backlist!

The Orchid Affair by Lauren Willig - the next Pink Carnation book.

Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta - Melina Marchetta is one of those authors that people rave about, but I haven't tried to read her books yet. This is the one that I have chosen to start with.

Sold by Brendan Gullifer - this is my next book club book.

What loot did you get this week. Share your Library Loot link in Mr Linky below:

  1. You came back with quite a pile, from the library.

Your book club book looks interesting.

    Happy reading!

  2. I love the cover for India Black and am really curious about it now! I hope you enjoy all your library reads!

  3. I have also heard great things about Melina Marchetta, but am planning to start with Jellicoe Road.

  4. I hope you enjoy India Black - I thought she was quite the character!

  5. India Black is waiting on my hold shelf right now. Let Jill and I know when you are done with Fleur, the ending is not what you'd expect, would love to talk more about it.

  6. Great loot! Country Driving looks interesting and I'm really looking forward to The Orchid Affair. Enjoy!

  7. India Black's been on my tbr list for a while. Enjoy!

  8. Have seen lots of positive comments about India Black. I've never heard of Melina Marchetta so will have to check her out.

    Enjoy your loot!

  9. That looks like a great haul. Enjoy!

  10. Country Driving looks interesting... Enjoy your books!

  11. I am still on a restricted loot diet. Only one this week, but it is Shaun Tan, do I get points for that :).

I was really struck by the cover of India Black, enough I think to pick it off the shelf if I saw it.

  12. Series books are nice because I feel like they don't really count towards my library pile -- I'm just continuing a book that I already started.

  13. I'm currently reading City of Tranquil Light by Bo Caldwell which is set in China in the early 20th century so Country Driving is something I might pick up off a shelf. The cover is striking.

So which of Nora Roberts would you recommend to a Nora newbie for her first taste?

  14. I'm reading A Truth Universally Acknowledged, a book of essays, obviously about Austen!

And as writers and readers this is an important time to be aware that library funding is at risk. Keep an eye out for local news, and consider speaking up to keep these treasures open.

  15. I cannot recommend the India Black book highly enough. I thought it an absolutely fabulous debut. I hope you enjoy it!

  16. I enjoyed India Black, though not as much as I adore the Lady Julia series. I really need to read the first book in the Pink Carnation series and Harrod-Eagles has been on my TBR list forever. Great Loot!

Regarding your comment on my top ten love stories, I toyed with putting Hannah & Ben on the list because I loved them, too! Ben was the absolutely perfect man for her, and OMG, is he SEXY! That was one of the things that disappointed me in the final book--his reduced role to babysitter. I wanted more of him!
