Library Loot: April 6 to 12

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!
Not a lot of loot for me this week, mainly because I am reading an overdue book that I want to finish before I go and pick up the books that are waiting for me.

You can share the loot that you got by leaving your Library Loot post link in Mr Linky below.

Here is what I did get:

Balzac and the Little Chines Seamstress by Dai Sijie - This is my next book club book.

If I Stay by Gayle Forman - After reading a few rave reviews of the follow up to this book I had to see what the fuss was!

The Tin Ticket: The Heroic Journey of Australia's Convict Women by Deborah Swiss - I saw this on someone's blog, and I usually make a note, but this time I can't remember where it was!

The other thing I wanted to do this week was mention an event that is coming up soon. Stephanie from Book Love Blog is hosting an event in honour of National Library Week between April 11 and 18. There are going to be guest posts, contests and more. For full details, click on the image below.

  1. I'm with you - If I Stay has moved from the bottom of my TBR pile (I was worried it would be depressing), straight to the top after all the rave reviews of the sequel! I feel like I'm missing out!

  2. I have had Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress on my shelf for a long, long time, and I will be interested in hearing if you like it or not. Your thoughts might inspire me to pick it up!

  3. I've also heard great things about If I Stay. There is a sequel coming out too (or maybe it's come out already?) so now may be the time to read the first one!

  6. We read If I Stay for book club and it was much better than I thought it would be. It got a high rating from us!

  7. The Tin Ticket looks good. There's another book out on the convicts at Port Arthur, photographs and documents detailing what they were sent here for and where they ended up.

  10. I really liked Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress. When I read it, I found that I was reading almost inadvertently several books on Mao's Cultural Revolution.

The Tin Ticket sound really interesting. I'm going to add it to my wish list because I find the history of Australia so involving. In fact, almost any book with an Australian setting catches my attention.

  12. I remember reading Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress ages ago, I think I thought it was alright. Pleasant read, but didn't leave much of an impression.
Hm, haven't heard of If I Stay before. The Tin Ticket sounds like a very interesting read!
