Teaser Tuesday: The Countess Angelique by Sergeanne Golon

I have been reading this series for a while now, and really loved them all. That is until this book, it seems, which I am really, really struggling with. I do really love the sex siren cover though, which so far doesn't seem to have a lot to do with the book!

The teaser comes from page 259:

Sometimes the love of liberty replaces all other loves. It is a much stronger, a much more burning passion than anyone thinks... It can become a man's sole pre-occupation. And it always makes him a nobler creature...
Teaser Tuesday is hosted by Miz B at Should Be Reading. Head on over to find out  all about it, and how to join in!

  7. Sorry you are struggling with the book. The teaser doesn't seem to match the cover either.

  9. It does seem a little dry to me. I think I like a little more passion from a character. Nice tease, though!I'm curious how the rest of the book goes.

  10. Two of my least favorite things: struggling through books and covers that don't match contents. Good luck with this. Thanks for stopping by Calico Contemplations.

  11. Why is it that some of the worst books have the best covers? She reminds me a bit of Princess Diane.

  12. I love that old-style cover! Not sure why the book doesn't live up to it, as the cover is pretty :)

  13. Oh boo! With a quote like that and a cover like that, it should be a rockin' book!

  19. Can't tell whether your character thinks she's losing out to liberty? Not an uncommon feeling, I'm sure.

  20. This is the book where the series takes a bit of a turn - action shifts to the New World and it's a completely different environment with different challenges and a somewhat different focus. I hope you'll be able to enjoy it more before the book is over.
As far as I can tell more often than not the covers for these books have very little in common with the story, so "don't judge the book by its cover" really applies here.
Tea, the first book in the series is Angelique.
