This Week....

I'm reading

I mentioned last week that I was just starting The Postmistress by Alison Stuart by which I meant that I had basically read the prologue.  It was really only once I had read the first chapter that I was really invested and that was predominantly because that chapter was set in an area of Melbourne called Williamstown. Williamstown is about half an hour away from us, not to mention approximately 130 years away but I could still see what it might have looked like in my mind. The action quickly moved to an area in the north eastern part of Victoria but it was enough to have me hooked already.

I haven't made any progress on The Good Turn by Dervla McTiernan which is my current audiobook. I have made some progress on the other book that I am reading at the moment which is Hippie Food: How Back-to-the-Landers, Longhairs, and Revolutionaries Changed the Way We Eat by Jonathan Kaufmann. It is work give that it is way outside my comfort zone but that's okay right? I have another couple of weeks to get through it so not time to panic just yet.

I'm Watching

Nothing much really. I watched an episode of Outlander so I am up to date with that, and we watched one episode of Ozark. At this rate it will take the rest of the year to get through 3 seasons.

One thing we did watch on Saturday was the movie The Meg - about a giant shark. We watched it as part of a movie night with a group of friends with everyone chatting  among themselves about the movie on Messenger. There was plenty of fun to be had as we watched the movie and people allowed their inner snark out.

Life

On Friday night we tried to have a game night on Houseparty. Have you tried it? It wasn't bad. We still had fun but I think we will be looking for different options next time. Our next stay at home outing with this group of friends is a high tea on Saturday, so I have to start thinking about what we are going to do for that!

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that we were working on a small project in our house which was the laundry and main toilet. This is a precursor to the bigger project that is planned for the June long weekend where we will be renovating the main family bathroom. The laundry and toilet are so close to being done. Just getting rid of the mission brown makes a big difference. There are a couple of bits that we can't paint but we will come up with a plan for them.

Goodbye 1970s floor tiles. There is only one small part left that hasn't been covered over yet in the main bathroom but it's only a matter of time. And hello dual flush water saving!

  1. Oh, yes, your remodeling should really make everything feel fresh and new. We all enjoy getting rid of the 70s look...lol. In my last apartment, which was a rental and couldn't be changed, I hated the kitchen cabinets.

    Enjoy the week!

    1. Lol Laurel-Rain. We did the kitchen a couple of years ago. I still look at it in awe most days! In fact, the pantry ended up in the laundry as additional storage.

  2. We have done more in our house in the last 8 weeks than 40 years of marriage. LOL Your renovation looks so nice. We have tried a couple of online get togethers and look forward to being in person again.

  3. We haven’t tried to have game night yet despite the fact we keep talking about doing it. At this rate social distancing will be over before we organise it.
    Nice new tiles!

Wishing you a great reading week and good health

    1. Thanks Shelleyrae! I am happy with the new tiles. Now, we will be putting the same tiles down in the main bathroom. That's scheduled for the June long weekend.

  4. That is so cool that you guys are doing virtual hangouts with your friends. We've been so busy with work that I've barely had time to check in with my friends but at least I can work from home so that's a good thing. Great job on the remodeling work!

  5. I am glad you getting into The Postmistress. There's something to be said for reading a book set in a location you are familiar with. That's great that you are having get togethers with friends. We haven't managed that. My manager at work held a 5 minute dance party on Zoom and a 5 minute Yoga party the next week for all staff. The 5 minutes is a misnomer because it really lasts half an hour. I had to attend a webinar and couldn't attend the Yoga party unfortunately, but I hear it was fun. It's just a little break for everyone during their long work days. Love the updates you made to your laundry room!

I hope you have a good week, Marg.

    1. Greg, I would suggest that we watch one of the Sharknado movies but I am not sure everyone would be able to type fast enough!

  8. We haven't tried an on-line game night yet. We were just talking about how long til we can have a regular game night at our house.
The laundry room looks good. I'm a bit jealous.
