Six Degrees of Separation: From The Naked Chef to In Bibi's Kitchen

Welcome to this month's edition of Six Degrees of Separation, which is a monthly meme hosted by Kate from Books Are My Favourite and Best.  The idea is to start with a specific book and make a series of links from one book to the next using whatever link you can find and see where you end up after six links.  I am also linking this post up with The Sunday Salon, hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

This month we are starting with The Naked Chef by Jamie Oliver, which is a different place to start. I am very interested to see how people make their chains this month. I've decided to stay within the cookbook world for my chain.

I have a few Jamie Oliver cook books so I thought I would start with one of those - Jamie Oliver's Great Britain

When I lived in the UK one of the great TV cooks was Delia Smith, so I am choosing her Complete Illustrated Cookery Course. This was one of the few cookbooks I bought back to Australia with me when I returned in 1999. The rest of the cookbooks that I had acquired were left behind.

Another author whose books I did bring back from the UK was Ainsley Harriott, so my next book is his Barbecue Bible.

A number of years ago now, I saw Ainsley Harriott do a live presentation at a Food and Wine Show. Another cook who I saw live in a similar presentation was Donna Hay. My next choice is her Modern Baking cookbook which I have sitting on my shelves.

Over the years, Donna Hay has appeared as a guest on Masterchef Australia, as has Josh Niland, who does amazing things with fish, so my next choice is Take One Fish: The New School of Scale-to-Tail Cooking and Eating

Josh Niland's book was a choice for Jamie Oliver's Cookbook Club, as was my final choice, In Bibi's Kitchen by Hawa Hassan and Julie Turshen

Next month the starting point is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey.

  1. What a fun concept but I don't know if I would have gotten very far. :)

    1. This was more challenging than normal when I use fiction books Debra!

  2. I watched a Jamie Oliver show on TV several years ago and it really stayed with me. So many people don't know how to cook or how to follow a recipe. It blew my mind.

    1. Luckily it is a skill that can be learned if there is the desire to do so!

  3. I don't read cookbooks; I barely cook. It's something I have absolutely no interest in so I do the basics....enough to feed my husband and me. :) I appreciate the cool cookbook angle, but I can't relate. ha!

    1. My confession is that my husband does most of the cooking! I do love cookbooks though

  4. This is the first chain I have seen that stuck with cookbooks. I use cookbooks so little now that did not even occur to me, but I do have one favorite cookbook that I will hold onto forever, and we do have others just in case.

    1. I get most of my recipes from either online or supermarket freebie magazines. I do still like looking through a cookbook though. I did expect to see someone else do this but it was tougher than normal I have to say.

  5. Fun lists. But now I'm hungry, and it's time to go to bed.

  6. You did well with your chain Marg …. I’m impressed you could keep the links going AND end up with a nod back to Jamie at the end.

    1. It was a bit tougher than I expected but I got there at the end! And yes, almost a completed circle!

  7. I'm glad you've stuck with cookery books - and your last three aren't known to me. I've got some catching up to do!

  10. That's a great chain. I get most of the recipes I use online so would have struggled to make a whole chain of books like these!

  11. Well, I kind of went the food route, but you went the whole-hog cookbook route! Brava. I know all of these chefs, except for the last two - I love watching cooking shows (and our TV just got the latest Great Australian Bake Off, which I'm watching faithfully)!

  12. Great list. The problem with these making all your readers hungry, lol

  13. I do like cookery books, but usually end up using just 2-3 recipes from each.

  14. This is a cute idea! I'm not sure where I would have gone from the first book, but you did great with it.

  15. My goodness, look how young Jamie Oliver looks in Naked Chef! I'd forgotten about that cookbook. I have several of his though.
