Classics Club Spin #43

Just because I have been doing this book blogging thing for a very long time (more than 20 years but who's counting!) doesn't mean that I can't try at new things.

This year, I have decided that I should try to read more Classics, and so I am joining the Classics Club Spin.

The idea is that you put up a list of Classics you want to read numbered 1 to 20, the spin will happen and that is the number book that you have to read. You can find a much better explanation of the rules at the Classics Club itself, but I am sure you get the idea.

The lucky spin number will be announced on Sunday so not too long to wait to see what book the fates have selected for me. The big challenge will be to see if I can complete the read or not.

Here's my list of 20 books

1. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen

2. The Leopard by Giuseppe Tomasi Di Lamdedusa

3. Middlemarch by George Elliot

4. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery

5. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

6. Jamaica Inn by Daphne du Maurier

7.  All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque

8. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte

9. My Brilliant Career by Miles Franklin

10. The Tree of Man by Patrick White

11. The Fortunes of Richard Mahoney by Henry Handel Richardson

12. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

13. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank

14. The Fellowship of the Rings by J R R Tolkien

15. War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy (finishing it!)

16.Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne

17. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle

18. The Women in Black by Madeleine St. John

19. The Plains by Gerald Murnane

20. The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu

Wish me luck!

  1. Good luck with your spin and welcome to the Classics Club! I've read a few of yours and I had The Leopard on my first Classics Club list & really liked it.

  2. You have so many good ones on your list, and a few I don't know! From what I do know, I feel you can't go wrong whatever you spin (particularly if it was Sense and Sensibility, haha!).
Here's to tomorrow, and the fate it shall bring!

  3. You’ve got a few of my favourites on your list! I cannot speak highly enough of The Tree of Man, adored The Women in Black and even though The Plains left me wondering about all sorts of things, it’s memorable. Hope you get a book that you love.

  4. I think we have two books in common, A Wrinkle in Time and Jane Eyre. I also noted that you have two books on your list that my husband owns and wants to read: The Leopard and Middlemarch. He doesn't have a Classics List, but he has always read more classics than I have. I want to read Middlemarch too, but I will wait until after he reads it.

    As for your list:

    7. All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque - loved the movie, have not read the book

    8. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte - loved it!!!!!

    12. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - I've read it a couple of times and I've seen the movie a billion times; love it

    13. The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank - read it several times; such a special girl...such a tragic life

    14. The Fellowship of the Rings by J R R Tolkien - Loved the books; loved the movies

    17. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle - could NOT get into it

  7. Some great books there! If you're looking for a chunky read, Sense and Sensibility would be my choice. But for a shorter read, you can't go wrong with Agatha Christie! Hope you get a good one!

  8. Nice list. There are a couple here that I really like, but I adore The Little Prince. That would be a easy read for you, but take it slow, or reread it a couple times. There are also a couple here I dislike pretty keenly, but I won't skew your opinion before you've begun. Cheers and enjoy!
