Top Ten Tuesday: That smells so good!

 Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's theme is Literary/Bookish Candles I’d Make (Pick a book and assign it a fragrance or fragrance combo that would make a nice candle.) (Submitted by Heather @ The Frozen Library)

Originally, I wasn't 100% sure I would do the topic as written but then I remembered that there are plenty of foodie scents that would work in a candle. I have also been meaning to do a foodie books post so I am combining the two! Not all of these books are foodie as such but they do have food items in their title!

The Magic of Lemon Drop Pie by Rachel Linden - I just recently read this and really enjoyed it! The main character, Lolly, makes a lot of Lemon Drop Pie in this book. Think lemon meringue pie with a small twist!

A Faraway Smell of Lemon by Rachel Joyce - This is a short story and the only thing I have read by Rachel Joyce. I do mean to read more as I love the sound of this book. Bonus is that it is set at Christmas and so we can combine the smell of lemon with the smells of Christmas.

A Crown of Bitter Orange by Laura Florand - I love Laura Florand's books so it is a real shame that she isn't publishing any more. They mostly are foodie or about perfumes and set in France. This is the third book in the La Vie en Roses series.

White Mulberry by Rosa Kwan Easton - I read this earlier this year before our trip to Japan and Korea and learnt so much about the history in the 20th century between these two countries. (my review)

Strawberry Shortcake Murder by Joanne Flake - You could use just about any book by in the Hannah Swensen series for this prompt

It was the Pie's Fault by Elizabeth Sa Fleur - This was a super fun romance that I read a while ago now which features fake dating, grumpy/sunshine tropes and delicious sounding cherry pies!

Chai Time at the Cinnamon Gardens by Shankari Chandran - This is a two for one book. Chai and Cinnamon could both be candle flavours right. It is also an excellent read!

Cinnamon and Gunpowder by Eli Brown - I mean if someone likes the smell of gunpowder this could be a two for one too! I started reading this ages ago but other things go in the way and I never finished it! One day I will. 

The Tea Rose by Jennifer Donnelly - My favourite in this trilogy was The Winter Rose but this was a great read too. And another two candle flavours title.

The Full Moon Coffee Shop by Mai Mochizuki - If I am going to do tea then it is only fair that I do coffee too! This was such a fun read when I read it last year. The next book in the series is being released in English next month and I am looking forward to it! (my review)

I'm reading....

Life continues to busy, but I did manage to find some time to do some reading, both in book and audio forms!!  I finished reading It Was All the Pie's Fault by Elizabeth SaFleur which was a fun read! And with all the different flavours of pie mentioned all through the book, it made me just a bit hungry!

I also finished reading The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer. This is the second book I have read by this Australian author. Such a good read!

The book that I started was The Night Ship by Jess Kidd which I am really excited about. It is the story of a ship called The Batavia which was shipwrecked on the Western Australian coast in the 1600s. I have long been interested in the story of this ship.

In addition, I have made good progress in listening to Working Class Boy by Jimmy Barnes as my book club book.

I'm watching....

Have you seen the I am Groot shorts films? They have just been released on Disney+.  They are just 5 minutes long and they are very cute!

We also watched all the current episodes of Welcome to Wrexham. This is the story of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney buying Welsh football club Wrexham.  It is touching and funny and I will definitely be watching more episodes as they come out.

Life

We had a very busy weekend!  Let's start with Sunday. 

In the morning we went to Lune Lab. Lune is a very famous croissanterie here in Melbourne. Often the line is out the door on the weekend but we had a prime position which gave a view of the cube inside the building which is where they roll out all the different shapes for the croissants. Lune Lab is a degustation where you get to try experimental fillings. What it was was delicious!

After a delicious breakfast, I headed into Melbourne Writer's Festival and attended three sessions. The first featured Sulari Gentil and Hayley Scrivenor talking about Frenemies. The second was a discussion was titled The Age of Anti-Ambition. The third session was a sensation conversation with Sarah Winman, author of Still Life! I could have listened to her talk all day! 

Really though, the highlight of our weekend is that we got a dog! Meet Max!

We have been talking about getting one for a while. However, I got impatient waiting for my son to make a decision last week, so I provided him with a shortlist of five different sets of puppies to choose from and Max was the lucky dog! Expect to hear more about Max!

This Week....

I'm reading....

I managed to fit in some audiobook time over the last week and so I was able finish An Island Wedding by Jenny Colgan. I have to say I was expecting a different ending... but I did still enjoy it..

I also finished reading Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll for this month's Cook the Books.

Then there's the books that I started. My read on a theme bookclub theme this month is autobiography or biography. I don't read a lot of biography, whether auto or otherwise, so I had to think hard about some choices. I realised that I had Jimmy Barnes's autobiogaphy Working Class Boy that I had purchased on Audible some time ago so today I started listening to that. I also borrowed The Happiest Man on Earth by Eddie Jaku, so who knows, I might read two books for this month!

As we have now moved into a new area, it is time to start finding new brunch places. On Saturday I had to wait for my husband to get his haircut, I started reading a freebie Kindle book called It Was All the Pies Fault by Elizabeth SaFleur which is fun so far. And makes me want to make pie.

I'm watching

Last week was the finale of this series of My Kitchen Rules (MKR). I really enjoyed this series and I was glad with the result.

I did start watching the new series of Never Have I Ever over the weekend. I am not really the target audience at all, but I do enjoy it, especially John McEnroe's narration.

We also started watching Mr Robot tonight. I know this is an older series but we have never watched it. 

Life 

We are pretty much settled in the new house. There are still boxes in the garage but the house looks pretty good. We are still acqiring a few bits and pieces of furniture and there is one room that needs a lot of work, but mostly we are settled.
