Six Degrees of Separation: Yesteryear to The Gilded Lily

Welcome to this month's edition of Six Degrees of Separation, which is a monthly meme hosted by Kate from Books Are My Favourite and Best. The idea is to start with a specific book and make a series of links from one book to the next using whatever link you can find and see where you end up after six links. I am also linking this post up with The Sunday Salon, hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz and A Good Book and a Cup of Tea hosted at Boondock Ramblings.

This month the starting point is Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke.

For my first selection I am choosing another title which has two words joined together to create a word that  doesn't really exist. I absolutely loved The Beforelife of Eliza Valentine by Laura Pearson when I read it a couple of years ago. The title for this book has been changed post publication to The Lives and Loves of Becca Valentine, so originally my plan was to talk about books whose titles have been changed. However, I ended up taking different direction.

A couple of weeks ago I finished reading First-Time Caller by B K Borison. This is a book which is set on a radio show where the main announcer is called Aiden Valentine. 

Another romance featuring people working on a radio show is Lonely Hearts Radio by Adeline Knight. This was an Audible original and featured an Australian radio announcer living in New York in 1999.

Moving away from romance novels, but still using the radio link my next choice is The Radio Hour by Australian Author Victoria Purman. This time the setting is 1950s Sydney

My next link is through the word hour. I am choosing The Gilded Hour by Sara Donati which is also set in New York, but this time in the late 19th century.

The word gilded is not one that comes up every day these days, but it is in a few titles, including The Gilded Lily by Deborah Swift. If I needed to keep on going from her there are any number of flower books out there, which oddly is a theme that I quite often end up with on these posts. Good job I am stopping here today!

Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Didn't Get to in 2023

 

 

 

 

 

Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week's theme is Books I Didn't Get to in 2023.  In order to find these books, I looked at previous posts of books that I was looking forward to. I did just have a thought that I should have just looked at this post form last year and see if i read any of those books! Next time!

So here are ten books I meant to read in 2023 but I never got to it!

Daisy and Kate by Meredith Appleyard - I have wanted to read this since I first saw the cover at the reader's retreat I went to last year.

Lady Tan's Circle of Women by Lisa See - I can't believe I haven't read this year. I usually love Lisa See's books.

The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and the Horse by Charlie Mackesy - I was given this beautiful hardcover book at a work event, but I haven't actually read it yet.


The Missing Sister by Lucinda Riley - Last year Pa Salt's book was released but I didn't read it as I still haven't read this book.

Inheritance by Nora Roberts - This is the first book in the The Lost Bride trilogy, and came out in November. I bought the audio straight away but haven't listened to it yet.


Before Your Memory Fades by Toshikazu Kawaguchi - I actually started listening to this over the weekend but when I started writing this post I had not so I am leaving it in!

A Woman's Work by Victoria Purman - I had a proper plan to read this before I went to the Australian Women Weekly exhibition in rural Victoria. However, one of these things happened and the other did not!


Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa - I intend to read this in the next couple of weeks.

Codename Charming by Lucy Parker - I was very excited when this book came out. Still haven't read it.

Where the Light Enters by Sara Donati  - I even got to meet this author when I was in the US last year, but still haven't managed to read this book.

Funny Story by Emily Henry (April) - Emily Henry is pretty much an autobuy author for me now.

The Underground Library by Jennifer Ryan (March) - I really enjoyed The Kitchen Front so I am looking forward to this one.

Those Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson (March) - I don't read a lot of sci-fi but I did enjoy this author's previous book, The Space Between Worlds.

Happy Ever After in Bellbird Bay by Maggie Christensen (February) - I always look forward to a new Bellbird Bay book.

Bordeaux Book Club by Gillian Harvey (March) - This cover was only revealed a couple of days ago,and I think it is cool!

The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn and Janie Chang (February) - This sounds really good!

The Dubrovnik Book Club by Eva Glyn (March) - I've never read this author but as soon as I saw the title I knew it would be on my list!

Top Ten Tuesday: Authors going to the Rachael Johns author retreat this weekend

However, this weekend I am going to the Rachael Johns Reader Retreat so my theme this week is authors attending the retreat

Rachael Johns - Of course I had to start with the host!

Anthea Hodgson - I am currently reading this book in anticipation of the book club discussion 

Victoria Purman- I've read a few of this author's books now.

Tricia Stringer - I have been reading this author for years, right from her initial book.

Penelope Janu - I have only read one of this author's books but I know people who love her

Emily Madden - When I read The Lost Pearl I was inspired to make a lemon crunch cake

Sandy Barker - I love the idea of this author's books which are all about fun locations and romance. I have read this book but I am very much looking forward to getting in on her next series from the first book

Leonie Kelsall - This author is local to where the retreat is being held and has been super helpful

Kim Lock - I haven't read this author yet.

Top Ten Tuesday: Books on My Autumn TBR

 

 

 

 

 

Welcome to this week's edition of Top Ten Tuesday which is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. This week the theme is Books on My Spring 2023 To-Read List. It is autumn here now though so it is Books on My Autumn 2023 To-Read List

I think we should just take a moment to appreciate the fact that I am actually doing the topic this week!

The Summer Party by Rebecca Heath - I am going to an author retreat last in May and this book and the next one are the two book club books that are going to be discussed!

The War Nurses by Anthea Hodgson - From the first time I heard about this book I was excited to read it. I haven't read this author before but I can't wait to read this book. It is based on the Bangka Island massacre during WWII.

The Nurses War by Victoria Purman - This is one of the authors who will be at the retreat, I am really interested to learn more about this book! 

Hopeful Hearts at the Cornish Cove by Kim Nash - The next few books are all for blog tours that are coming up soon. I haven't read this author before but there was great excitement when the tour was announced so FOMO kicked in and I signed up!

The Little Venice Bookshop by Rebecca Raisin - I have read a number of books by Rebecca Raisin over the last few years. I love how she writes about food, books and place! Maybe she will inspire me to visit Venice

An Italian Island Summer by Sue Moorcroft - If you look at the titles of these and other books I have coming up, there is still a bit of a holiday inspiration vibe to a lot of them! I mean, we only just spent some time in Italy recently. I can't already be dreaming of going back already can I?

The Paris Maid by Ella Carey - I usually participate in Ella Carey's blog tours but didn't get an invite to this one...maybe it's still coming! Either way, I will be reading it!

Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus - This is the next Cook the Books selection

The Spice Master of Bistro Exotique by Samantha Verant - This is a library book I grabbed on a whim last time I was there.

Lost Luggage by Samantha Tonge - I have read one book by this author and really enjoyed it so when I saw this on the new book shelf at the library I grabbed it straight away
