Library Loot!

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and me that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

I am feeling a little impatient with my library at the moment! I mentioned in my last post that I was a bit disappointed that my library didn't have the third book in the Thief books by Megan Whalen Turner on the catalogue yet. Today I finished reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, another YA book, and I really, really enjoyed it. The next step after finishing a book is to look up the library catalogue for the next book in the series. Uh-oh! No Catching Fire! Admittedly Catching Fire isn't released yet, but still! I want to read it, and I want to be able to request it right now!

Now that I have had my little tantrum *grin* here's my library loot for this week!

City of Ashes by Cassandra Clare - after enjoying the first book in the series I had to pick up the sequel as soon as I can.

Grave Peril by Jim Butcher - I don't know how many times I have borrowed this book from the library before, but I really do want to read it. Maybe this time!

Painting Mona Lisa by Jeanne Kalogridis - there has been quite a lot of chatter about this author on the Historical Fiction blog circuit as a result of the recent release of her latest book, The Devil's Queen. Seeing all those posts reminded me that I actually still hadn't read the previous book either yet!

So how about you? What books did you get out of the library this week? Be sure to add your link to Mr Linky so we can all check out your hauls.

  1. I am reading The Thief now. Lucky I have all three books on my shelves, and lucky that you liked the first two so much that you're itching for the third. We should discuss when we are both through the series :-)

  2. I would be happy to Aarti! I have to say that I am probably a tad more eager to get hold of Catching Fire today, but I'd be happy with either!

  4. I've always wanted to read Jim Butcher. Where do I begin? What's the first in the series?

  7. I read Grave Peril at the weekend and really enjoyed it. I hope you find time to read it this time! I really want to read the Cassandra Clare series too. I like the cover of Painting Mona Lisa, I'm looking forward to reading your review.

  8. My link name is a bit weird, but the link is good.

I understand about not having the books you want at the library. Mine, right now, is awesome, but the library in the town before this was Pathetic. It's quite frustrating. Keep bugging them, though. Eventually, they'll get you the books you want (crossing fingers).

  9. I love the Jim Butcher series! I just recently finished Summer Knight which is the 4th book in the series (I think) and really liked it. Hope you enjoy your finds!

  10. I just bought City of Glass and it's two sequels for my kids. They said the first one was really good, the second one a bit uneven, but that the series picks back up with the third book. I am looking forward to reading them as well, and hope you enjoy them too.

  11. Great loot!

I plan to buy CITY OF GLASS soon. I've already got the first book in my TBR.

    Happy reading! :)

  12. I really enjoyed the first book Alice!

Zibilee and Blodeuedd, I will try to let you know what I thought of City of Ashes when I get to read it!

Samantha and Rhinoa I really need to sit down and read a few books in the Butcher series. I know from what I have read already that I will really enjoy them!

Melissa, most of the time my library is really good! I am probably a bit spoiled but when a book that I really want to read isn't there I get a bit pouty! When two I want to read aren't there, what's a girl to do! LOL!

    Thanks for stopping by Jess!

Lezlie, my first Kalogridis was The Borgia Bride and I loved that!

Unfinishedperson, the first Harry Dresden book is Storm Front

  13. Hi Marg!
I love the Library Loot theme post. I'm going to try to participate when I can.

I read The Thief earlier this year--I don't know where I got my copy. I think from a book fair at the kids' school perhaps. Since them I've been having trouble finding the second AND third books at my or neighboring libraries. Even my two local bookstores don't have copies. Very disappointing. Through my online catalog searches for public libraries in my county, I finally located a set at one library the other day. I hope to borrow them soon.

The Hunger Games is a fantastic novel. I, too, cannot wait for the sequel. Not too much longer to wait!

  14. Christine, we would be more than happy to have you participate! It's very frustrating when you can't locate a book you really want to read! At this point in time, Catching Fire and The King of Attolia are definitely right near the top of my must read soon list! There's probably a few others up there as well, but for now those are the ones I am thinking about most!

  15. I have City of Ashes on my list too, and Painting Mona Lisa looks really interesting

  16. I have to read City of Bones first! And I have the second in the Jim Butcher series to read - the first one was very good, much better than the tv series, which I also saw! But I know about libraries - ours will only let us request hardcovers!!! how stupid is that??? So either I get stuck with 10 + hardcovers to carry, which I can't, or I dont' request very many, which isn't what a library is for. That's my rant for the day!!

Enjoy your books, and i can hardly wait for the review of Painting Mona Lisa, it does look like an interesting cover. You might get me to read more historical fiction after all! lol

  17. Hazra, I really hope that Painting Mona Lisa is good! Given how much I loved the first book that I read by this author, it would be a big disappointment if I didn't like this book!

Susan, despite hearing all sorts of different things about libraries around the world, I definitely think that this is the first time I have heard of only being able to borrow hardcovers. What's that about?

  18. A-ha! My first thought after just glancing at this was..."when did Jeanne Kalogridis do another Mona Lisa book??!"...but then I realized that Painting Mona Lisa just has a completely different title in the US....Here it's called I, Mona Lisa and the cover is also completely different. Sometimes I wonder why they do that; certain books just don't need different titles for each of the English-speaking nations' releases! lol :)

  19. Coming from a non-English speaking country it is always interesing to check which books in English our library system does have and which not.I was very happy to notice that we have not only Painting Mona Lisa, but two other of books bt Kalogridis, and both City of Bones and City of Ashes. We don't have Grave Peril, but do have some other books in the Dresden files series.
    Interesting loot.:)

    Greetings,
    Tiina

  20. Allie, it drives me crazy when they do that too, especially when they have titles that are COMPLETELY different.

Tiina, does your library have a big selection of books in English? Which other Kalogridis books do they have?

  21. I saw this over at Christine's blog. What a great idea! My library is so bad. I have to request everything via the state's ILL system, which takes forever. But, I am reading Hot Pursuit and Malice from the library, so can't complain too much right now :)
