World Cup 2010 is here!

I was talking to my boss yesterday and told him that I possibly should have mentioned when he hired me that I am going to be a bit of a zombie for the next month or so. I actually was exaggerating a little bit. If it wasn't for the time zones which mean that most of the games start either around midnight or at 4.30am, I would probably end up watching a lot more of the World Cup than I am going to. When you add in that Wimbledon is in a couple of week (on overnight) and Tour de France as well as the normal Australian winter sports, then there is a lot of spectating going one during the month of June!

My enjoyment of soccer is one of the few legacies left from the five years spent in the UK back in the late 90s, unless you count my son of course, and the occasional Thorntons toffee when I can get it.

One of the best things about the World Cup is getting to see Lucas Neill (Socceroo captain) on the news all the time! Yep, it doesn't take much to keep me happy!

Go Socceroos!

  3. I too am chuffed that, however briefly, the only kind of football I like will be the thing being talked about on the sports news. I grew up here but for some reason our family had no devotion to Aussie rules and soccer was the only football ever discussed - thank heavens Monday is a holiday here so I can get up to watch Australia v Germany at 3:30am then go back to bed

  4. Before I moved overseas I think I had seen one half of soccer. The rest of the time dismissed it as boring, but that soon changed once I moved overseas and it was all I heard about. Better check that time Bernadette. I think it starts at 4.30am Eastern. I am planning on being up to watch that game too.

Becky, we've been to see Melbourne Victory a few times live so we will go with them. Who do you follow?

    Thanks for stopping by Parisian_love

  5. I'm so glad I'm not the only book blogger obsessed with World Cup! Go Portugal! Right now is S. Korea vs. Greece here in the eastern US.

I'm looking forward to the 2:30PM game with US and England...should be a good one.

  7. Hey we made it!?! I don't remember the last World Cup, but I was in Japan when it was on there and I remember we didn't get in :( Living in Canada, of course I only hear about how Canada didn't get in this year - so great to know the Socoroos did! I thought I saw them playing yesterday but gold and green uniforms seem to be pretty common. It was Jamaica or something.

  8. Having lived overseas for a while I remember that lack of news about other teams.

Yes, we are in, and will be playing at 4.30am Australian Eastern time on Monday morning - whatever time that equates to for you!
