Library Loot: June 1 to 8

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

Did you notice the date for this week's loot post? June! How can it possibly be June already?

Tiger Hills by Sarita Mandanna - I heard an interview on NPR with the author, and the comparison to The Thorn Birds and other big juicy sagas but set in India sounded very appealing to me, so I requested it straight away. I had heard of it before.

The Countess Angelique by Sergeanne Golon - the next book in the Angelique series. How fabulously bawdy is this cover! I might have to scan the cover in again at some point to get a clearer picture!

  1. I did a post of New Arrivals just today! I'm not sure if that is allowed - does it have to be Library Loot? I'll link up anyway and you can remove me if it's illegal. :-)

I like your eclectic selection of books. I see you have one by Jo Walton. I'm reading Among Others, her newest book. It's the first book I'm reading by her.

    Happy reading!

  3. So whatever happened to Land of the Painted caves?

I think I'm finally getting close to starting this series. I got all but the first via swap, etc. and Michele decided to buy Angelique so we both could read them.

You can find a better cover image for this over at Goodreads, http://www.goodreads.com/book/photo/9330890-the-countess-angelique

  4. Misfit, had to return it unread! Will get to it again eventually. Hope you like the Angelique books when you get to it!

    Hasn't it just Pam!

Leeswammes, I'll be around to have a look at your arrivals soon!

  5. It's hard to believe it's June already, but I'm always conscious of June 1st because it's my Aunt Bonnie's birthday. She was born in 1904, which was 107 years ago! I was named for her.

Did YOU notice that you gave us an eight-day week (June 1-8) this time?

  6. Sure! I am just pretending that June 7 doesn't exist

  9. I'm reading The Anti-Romantic Child. Excellent understanding of raising an unusual child, marital problems, and balancing work/family.

  15. I just now got my loot posted and will try to visit everyone's loot over the next day.

I see we have a book in common, Marg. I finally got my hands on Zombies vs. Unicorns. It looks like a fun read... and perhaps quicker to read than I expected, too! The font in my version will be easy on my eyes. lol

    Tiger Hills sounds lovely.

    Enjoy!

  17. You have no idea how excited I was to see the Angelique book on your list. This is one of my favorite series and I always thought it a tremendous shame that it's not well-known here in the States. It might have something to do with the covers being much too provocative for what the books are about. I absolutely cannot wait for the final installment to be released, hopefully soon. Fingers crossed!

  18. Olga, I am not sure that it is the covers but rather that they are old books that people have forgotten about. They really need to get rereleased to bring them to a whole new generation of readers.

Bina, is there such a thing as too many books?

Christine, I ended up accidentally returning Zombies vs Unicorns early. Expect to see it back on my Library Loot in the next week or so.

Bev, Rebecca and Audra, Tiger Hills does look good doesn't it.

Samantha, I always forget how much I enjoy reading that series. I haven't read any of her other series.

Lustyreader, the Angelique books are so much fun!

  19. Anne Golon is actually working on getting all of the Angelique books re-released but not in the current versions - she's re-writing them to be "the writer's cut" of sorts which will be nice considering that publishers took a lot of liberties with the material, especially the last 3 books. There were some issues with her getting the rights to her work back from the publishers but now that that is over she's able to devote time to the series and to finishing the last book. May be we'll even get the full series in English this time!

  20. Yes, I was aware of that. It would be nice to read those later books which just haven't been accessible in Englih before. The only hope I have is that she gets to complete the project. She is getting on a bit I believe.
