Library Loot: June 20 to 26

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Claire from The Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!
I made a very exciting discovery today! It looks as though my local library is going to start lending ebooks! There hasn't been any official announcement yet but I was looking up a book with the intention of requesting it and noticed that there was an ebook option available. I got so excited I forgot to actually request it yet!

There is a certain irony in the fact that I got so excited about this. I actually joined two other library systems so that I could borrow ebooks when I got my ereader but I haven't used either of those library systems for probably 18 months! I am going to request this one and see what happens as I am not sure if you can extend your borrowing time in the same way you can normal library books and I am also not sure how many ebooks are going to come into the system. It will, however, be interesting to see how this aspect of the library borrowing develops in the near future.

Update: Turns out the link to download doesn't work yet!

Here are the books that I did actually request:

Paris in Love by Eloisa James - I've read quite a lot of Eloisa James' romance novels, but this is about the year that she spent living in Paris, and is a perfect read for Paris in July.

Smart and Sexy by Jill Shalvis - My journey through Jill Shalvis' backlist continues.

A Stranger in My Street by Deborah Burrowes - I love reading books set again WWII. What could be better than that? A book set in my home town of Perth during WWII!

Beyond the Sunset by Anna Jacobs - I recently read the first book in this trilogy, which is another set in Perth, but this time during the 1800s.

The Lost Art of Gratitude by Alexander McCall Smith - I am all caught up on the No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency books, but at least a few books behind in the Isabel Dalhousie series.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith - My next face to face book club book.

Karma by Carly Phillips - The next book in the Serendepity series of contemporary romances.

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater - This is one of the books that was featured in an upcoming  Writer and the Critic podcast which was recorded at Continuum and everyone really enjoyed it so I thought I would give it a chance too

Clare has Mr Linky this week so head over to her blog to share your loot for this week.

  1. How exciting about the library ebooks! The availability of ebooks from my library was one of the main reasons I got an ereader and I've definitely been making use of them. Enjoy your loot!

    1. I have borrowed a couple right back at the beginning when I got my ereader but haven't since.

  2. Ooo! I hope they do! That would be wonderful, Marg. I think my library offers them for a small price, but I haven't taken advantage of it. It's been years since I was last in our local library--I'm sure my card is no good now. I do want to change that though as I want my daughter to know the joys of visiting the library the way I did as a child. I only wish they had activities for kids on the weekends. Everything's during the week when I'm working. :-(

    Enjoy your books!

  4. I have been wanting to read Paris In Love ever since I featured the cover in a post. Our library does not have it, but I will order it at some point. I did read Serendipity, the first in the Carly Phillips series and The Scorpio Races. Since The Scorpio Races is based on mythology, there are some interesting discussion opportunities for your group. Enjoy your books.

  5. Ooh, I have never read a novel set in Perth so will look these two up. It is my Aussie husband's favourite Australian city after Sydney even though (or because?) they are so different. I visited once but for some reason Fremantle crowds out all other memories!

    What is Paris In July?

    1. I haven't lived in Perth for 30 years but I do love visiting.

Paris in July is a month long blogging celebration of all things Paris and France. You can find out all the details here

  6. Hope you enjoy White Teeth - I loved it!
Must get A Stranger in My Street too - I think the only other novel I've read set in Perth is Cloudstreet.

    1. If you want to give a futuristic, post apocalyptic short story a go then try Nightsiders by Sue Isle (which is published by a small press based in Perth), if you want to try a rural fiction type book which is predominantly set in the Pilbara but also in Perth try The Girl in Steel-Capped Boots by Loretta Hill and if you want some historical fiction which starts in the UK but ends up in WA try Anna Jacobs' Farewell to Lancashire.

  8. I'd read Paris in Love along with a book I have, Paris My Sweet by a different author. The McCall Smith book also looks good! Enjoy!

    1. Harvee, I read Paris My Sweet earlier this year and really enjoyed it.

  9. I enjoyed Paris in Love. Oddly, I'm the opposite - I haven't read any of her romances, although I do have at least one of them in e-book form (which means I'll probably get to it in a decade -- not big on e-books, yet).

  10. You inspired me to see whether my library offers ebooks - and they do! I enjoyed White Teeth too and I think it would make a great book club selection - I read it on my own and wish I'd had someone to discuss it with. I've seen Maggie Stiefvater's name everywhere but haven't read anything of hers yet, so I'm interested to hear what you think.

  11. I can't remember the last time I even looked at my libraries e-book collection... I always think it is cool and then don't use it!
