Weekend Cooking: What I Baked (In My Kitchen) in August

The first Saturday of the month is when I share all the things that I baked in the previous month. I only made a couple of things this month because we were away for one weekend and then we were moving house so not a lot of baking time!!

Blueberry and White Scones - I made these for International Scone Week and posted about it here.

Raspberry and White Chocolate muffins - I found this recipe on Facebook somewhere but I can't remember where. I made these a couple of days before we moved, so had to plan all the necessary tools very carefully to make sure I could bake them. I think the only thing I forgot was the cooling rack. I took them to work and they were a big hit. I will definitely be making these again!

Each month I link up this post with In My Kitchen hosted by Sherry's Picking. As we moved house last week, I am going to talk about my new kitchen, rather than anything in my kitchen. First, there are some progress photos and then 5 things I love about my new kitchen.

1. Stove - We chose the stove last year and they may have told us about the features then but if they did I don't remember. You turn on the oven and it has a digital display to choose which setting you want. Then as it preheats you can see what the temperature is so you can tell when it is up to temperature and ready to use. It was a complete surprise when we used it the first time that it has these features.

2. Drawer - When we renovated our kitchen in the previous house, we put a storage space under the oven, but here it is a drawer which I love! No getting down on the floor to reach around to the back of the storage space.

3. Fridge - We opted for a door in door fridge which I enjoy already! Really, it looks fancier than it actually is.

4. Counter - I loved my old kitchen counter. It had these big sparkly bits. This time the sparkly bits are much finer, but they do still catch your attention as you walk around the kitchen, especially in the sunshine.

5. Butlers pantry - I was looking forward to having extra pantry space but it would seem that our previous pantry was jam packed so this pantry already looks pretty full. I am looking forward to being able to see what we already have. When we were packing the old pantry we realised we had a LOT of duplicates. For example, we have a lot of bi-carb soda and a lot of vanilla!

I do keep on opening the garbage bin drawer instead of the dishwasher but I am sure I will get used to that in due course. How long does it take to create a new habit?

I am sharing this post with In My Kitchen hosted at Sherry's Pickings.

  2. A new kitchen, I am jealous! We should really renovate ours, but I don't want the aggravation! However, it may happen in the new year if we can't find a dishwasher to fit the current space....

That's an advantage of moving to a home beng built too, getting to pick out your applicances, flooring, etc. I keep trying to get my husband to think about a move :-)

  10. Your new kitchen is beautiful! How exciting. I look forward to more pictures. I know what you mean about pantries. I try and empty my own at least once a year and frequently find duplicates...then I reorganize and can't fine anything which leads to more duplicates. Sigh. The whipped cream on those scones had me salivating. You have lucky coworkers.

  11. I have been working on a Raspberry and White Chocolate Scone recipe. Maybe muffins would be easier? We only have drawers in our kitchen and it makes a huge difference to getting to everything. Yours sounds amazing.
